The name originates from the deep mountains of Limpopo GA Matlala A Thaba. In simple terms “Mmathibedi’ means ” Mother protector or Main protector” or someone who cares a lot.
The tag was accorded to the village women who remained in charge of multiple families when their husbands went to fight during world war 11. These women would take care of those families as if they were their own until such time the men return from the war.
Therefore Mmathibedi is a very special name associated with care.
